Citrus County dermatologist Ralph Massullo, 58, has prefiled paperwork to become the first announced candidate for District 34 Florida House seat, held by Jimmie T. Smith. Smith is running for the state Senate seat that will be vacated by Charlie Dean.
Massullo, a Republican, is a native of West Virginia who first studied to become an industrial engineer, then returned to medical school. He came to Citrus County in 1989. While this is his first run for public office, he has been president of two societies in his medical field and served on the board of Seven Rivers Christian School.
His platform focuses on three issues: quality and cost-effective health care, a strong education system that includes skills training for students’ futures, and creating career-level jobs that balance economic development and preserving the natural beauty of the Nature Coast.
During his time in the area, Massullo said, “I have developed a fondness and compassion for the citizens of our district, as well as a keen awareness of their particular needs. In my opinion, my skills, abilities, work ethic and experience uniquely qualify me to be an effective and efficient servant for our district and state.”
Massullo is married and has four grown children.
District 34 includes a portion of the northwest quadrant of Hernando County and all of Citrus County.
